Gael Resilience Triumphs Over Trauma

The graphical scenes we normally see in movies are realities to some people. Take Gael, a sad story of young man who gruesomely witnessed her father killing her mother. What he saw would later come to haunt him in episodes of mental depression. From a young age he’s lived with these traumatic episodes and severely suffered from compounded grief. That really impacted negatively on his mental and emotional health. Due to hopelessness he sought to find solace and some sense of purpose in the streets. That’s where he joined a criminal gang and got exposed to drugs and substance abuse.

He was referred to Daraja 360 by a relative & began his counselling and therapy for a period of one month. During this time, he was offered food and shelter to support him focus on the sessions. He later enrolled to the mentorship program and was helped to identify his career path. Gael was interested in plumbing so we facilitated for sponsorship to cater for his apprenticeship training where he can learn and advance his skills.

All these efforts were done to ensure Gael steps out of the grief period and starts to see and appreciate life from a different angle. And that’s exactly what he did. The regular counselling and mentorship sessions have great impact on his mental health. Daraja 360 family has been a strong pillar, and as we speak, Gael got himself a house and is able to take care of his needs. Surely, he’s on a path to sustainability and self-realization
