Life can be tough sometimes, but for Abel, a single father of three, it felt like the world was against him. In 2016, his wife left him with their two young children, Rytanaia and Israel, taking all of their household belongings and even leaving him with significant debts. Abel was left with no choice but to rely on the kindness of well-wishers to provide for his family.
Despite the numerous challenges he faced, Abel remained steadfast in his love for his children. He did everything in his power to keep them fed, clothed, and sheltered. He knew that education was the key to a better future for his children, but school fees, uniforms, and lunch levies were often beyond his means.
That’s when Abel was referred to Daraja, an organization dedicated to helping vulnerable families like his. After hearing his story, Daraja decided to step in and provide support to help Abel get back on his feet. They agreed to help settle his children in school, with Rytanaia attending junior secondary and Israel attending a primary school near their home.
In addition to education, Daraja also helped with Abel’s rent arrears and provided two months’ rent upfront to ensure that the family had a stable home. To help Abel generate a sustainable income, they gave him seed capital to revive his former business selling electrical appliances as a hawker in Nakuru.
Thanks to the support of Daraja 360 and a local donor who generously gave to help Abel, the family is doing well. Abel’s children are back in school, and he is back in business. He is grateful for the assistance that has enabled him to provide for his family and keep them together.
