Elizabeth Angule, a 24 years old youth and a sister to five siblings lost her mother at a very young age of just 2 months in a car accident. She was left under the care of her aunt Evelyn who resides in the interior areas of Kongasis Oljorai, Gilgil in Nakuru County.
Farming was not enough to put food on the table for the family of 12 children. Life became tough and unbearable for them that Elizabeth’s brothers left for the streets where she followed suit but was rescued early enough by Daraja 360 former Nakuru 3:16.
Angule was lucky enough to get enrolled in Jitegemea schools under scholarship for nursery and primary education and proceeded to Njoro Precious Girls High School. Upon finishing her secondary education, she desired to get an opportunity to join the National Youth Service (NYS) but the intake got postponed for six months.
That’s not how she envisioned everything would turn out. So, for a while, she struggled with finding something to do and that’s where Daraja 360 came in again. Offered her accommodation and immediately got enrolled in mentorship classes for more skill impartation after which she also got to start an entrepreneurship program where she started training on the sewing of bags, clothing and, making of other fashion accessories.
Daraja provides a safe space for people to express themselves and to feel loved. With the help of a mentor, Elizabeth who was reserved is now open to chatting with people and her self-confidence is slowly improving. The Bible-based mentoring classes have been of great help in her spiritual nourishment, connection to God, and character molding.
In the social enterprise, Elizabeth has proved to be disciplined, consistent, and well organized thus earning her the opportunity to be the custodian of production consumables such as threads, needles, fabrics, and chalks. Her training has taken a short time since she is a fast learner and is now able to sew bags and clothing, earning herself sustainable income that she uses to support her family. The transformation under Daraja has made Elizabeth even more responsible as she recently moved out to her own rented house.
Her pursuit to reach her desired destination is not over as she is still focusing on training to improve in quality and expects to be the leading production manager in the future.
