What You Missed at the 2022 Daraja 360 Form Four Leavers Camp

After 4 months of preparation, the annual form four leavers camp started with much anticipation and expectation from all stakeholders involved. Students began reporting into the campsite as early as ten in the morning with some coming in later in the afternoon. Upon arriving at the site, your welcomed with a lush green picturesque, trees marking the roads and a cool breeze down your spine.

Registration desk was ready to checking in everyone including the campers, staff and facilitators. After which the students were assembled together for orientation of the camp norms. Different groups were created with each having a color symbol, and later students were tasked to write down their expectations.

Being a young person is an interesting phase in life. It is a season characterized by many questions that begs for honest answers. It is evident that there are questions that beg for an answer if one has to be at peace with self and others. Life is a journey where one is at liberty to take the road he/she want to travel.

Who am I, what is the essence of life, what is the purpose of my life, what do I want to pursue , what is the right time to get a partner, Do I give myself enough time ,are my parents right or wrong , why are there laws , can’t I be my own boss? Do I really need that expensive phone? Do I use time or do I waste it if I were to live my life all over again what would I change

This among many other queries informed Daraja 360 in partnership with other like-minded organizations to provide a platform for the young people to give them compass that will enable them to Navigate through life as ease without succumbing to the pitfall of addiction , Identity crisis , abusive  relationship and eventually self-destruction.

The 2022 form four leavers camp had the following objectives.

  • Create awareness on available opportunities after high school
  • Help the youth find their career direction
  • Help the youth discover their identity  
  • Addressing emerging issues such as mental health, drugs, and substance abuse and addiction, Relationships.

The three day camp was truly informative, fun and transformative to the hundreds of teens who showed up. We got a chance to ask the campers their experience of the camp and what they got to learn within the 3-days. Some of their general comments and sentiments include.

  • Camp facilities: conducive for all learning activities.
  • Camp catering: the catering team did a commendable job in terms of quality however the quantity should be reviewed.
  • Camp accommodation: accommodation was just perfect and they all felt so much at home.
  • Programmed activities: all the programs ran smoothly and every program went well.
  • Staff; the staff were praised by all the campers for being hospitable and for the good job they did to ensure that everyone was comfortable.
  • Cleanliness: general hygiene was very good commendable and the work crew team came in handy
  • Presentations; the choice of the topics and the presentation by the facilitators met the needs and the expectations of the campers   
  • Safety;  The safety within the camp facilities had no discrepancies  and posed no risk factors
  • Value for money: The campers felt that the standard exceeded the camp charges.
